Chemical Investigations Programme: where are we now?
The water industry has been collaboratively delivering the Chemical Investigations Programme since 2010, furthering our understanding of the occurrence and fate of substances in sewage. We can characterise sewage effluent and have tested a number of existing and novel treatment technologies to understand their removal performance and costs. Over this time period we have also seen a decline in the concentrations of certain substances. However, new substances of concern are emerging which need further investigation.
